Well, not exactly. Just a geeky update...

I just got over the latest hump - the chapter giving me the most problems (because it was the least mapped out) is done for now, leaving me free to drive on with the other chapters that I've already laid out in my head, so the writing should go a bit faster. I hope.

Stay tuned Cool

Estimated total audience - 5310

Estimated readers - 3540

OK, another make believe deadline blown, as I do battle with the internal editor who keeps rewriting and tossing paragraphs, particularly on the chapter I thought I finshed. Anyway, one down, three to go...

I think interest in the book is picking up; I got over 300 hits on chapter 1 last week. Cool.

The hits for the 30th pushes the EOM total up to 956:

Total audience estimate - 5340

Reader estimate - 3560

Anyway, to recap, I have one chapter down and three to go to finish. The weekly podcast Sundown Lounge is on hiatus until the 23rd, so I'll be writing and rewriting in the meantime. I'm not even taking a break for the start of my birthday week tomorrow; this is serious crunch time!

(From Wikipedia:)

"Devil's Night is a name associated with October 30, the night before Halloween. It is related to "mischief night" practiced in other parts of the United States and the world."

In Detroit, it used to be a time for arson in the inner-city. Not as much nowadays, but we'll see this year.

Anyway, I'm doing the stats early so I can get back to it. Funny thing is, I'm working on the last big sex scene, but that doesn't make it any easier to write (insert lame joke about 'blood rushing from head' here).

Speaking of stats:

5436 est. total audience

3600 est. fans

Ok, two chapters down, one and a half to go, so here's the latest stats pic:

5554 est. total audience

3700 est. fans

So here's the deal - I finished parts 3 and 5 of ch. 21, "Vicksburg," finished writing part 3 on turkey day, in fact. I got back from my 'writer's retreat' this morning and checked the book stats online, seriously torn over my last proclamation to hold the chapters till I had all four ready, but, dammit, it's been since the end of March...

After I post this blog entry, I'm gonna record and release part 3. Look for it to hit the web tomorrow. Part 4 and chapter 22 will be sweated over during the Christmas season. Stay tuned...

It's been a while, so I forgot how long producing an episode takes - recording the raw voiceover, editing out the bloopers and bus noise, then editing for style and flow, THEN producing the segments into a final product. I had to wait until after work to upload the file (while listening to Obama at West Point), but it sounds fine...

Vicksburg, Part 3

After I put the thing up, I noticed that I had a part I've gotta change in the manuscript, but no biggie...

Ok, I've been at the weekend writer's retreat working on the book, but also this first attempt at a book trailer...

As I celebrate my 12th dreadlock birthday today, I'm putting up the latest (screwed up) book stats. Mevio didn't register any hits from the 18th to the 25th, so no estimates, as these numbers are crap for wrapping up the month. I don't expect this to be corrected by Friday, either...

Ok, I pulled this EOM pic in the early evening yesterday:

Total audience estimate - 5773

Fans estimate - 3848

I must admit, I haven't been working on the book that much over the past couple weeks due to getting the weekly podzine Sundown Lounge back on schedule and getting the vidcast SLounge TV going, but it's a new month, so a new opportunity to get ths thing wrapped up...

Ok, I let the February EOM stats get away from me, so I'm posting the stats today while I'm working all day on the book only - writing the last chapter and a half, updating Ch. 2 and posting up the changes in the excerpt on my website and elsewhere online (I mainly had to add a physical description of the character Amanda Harris, something I didn't even notice earlier, but that's what editing is for...).

5855 Audience Est.
3900 Est. Total Readers, but who knows for sure...

(Originally posted on my homepage last Friday...)

Ok, strictly for blog purposes, I'm making a book update as I cook the last chapter and a bit's worth of Banjo Strings...

The early chapters are running hot at Mevio at the moment, and the writing is really going well. Spring Break for me starts next week and there are four more days of March to write. I'm determined, I say, to finish this thing by month's end...

Since early this morning the TV was off and the beach was on, a pair of seagulls were chasing off a shark that came too near shore. And the writing has been flowing. There was a party thing at the beach house last night. Met some interesting people, handed out my book plugger, all the while grabbing a sit down with the laptop cooking the book. The words last night were flowing as well, and it almost felt like the days back in WEEDS or Estelle's. I could write poetry easily within that swirl of energy, and many saloon poets did.

It's crazy cool, but that's LA.

----

Ok, back at the downtown Skid Row garrett and I'm down to half a chapter of draft writing. It's exciting, but I gotta stay focused...

Ok, after wrestling with this thing since I first started writing it in 2006, I finally have the complete book written down. That doesn't mean I'm done - I still have to let these last chapters marinate a few days, tweak and rework here and there, then put up the podcast episodes, but it's done. No longer a novel in progress, now it's a novel.

Total Audience Est. - 5933
Total Readers Est. - 3950

The next phase of the podcast novel will begin when the last episode is uploaded and readers will have access to the entire story. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for the raw, unvarnished tale to reach the magic 50,000 hits. Cool

Ok, latest Banjo Strings book news...

I've tweaked and edited and tinkered with the last three chapters till I'm ready to throw the computer out the window, but last night I recorded the raw voiceovers while battling with the almost constant rumble of buses and the barely coherent screechings from the drunks and 51-50's going to and from the King Eddie bar down on the corner. I'm taking a short pause to produce the next Sundown Lounge and SLounge TV (a Brazil showcase!), then next week the final chapters will be released...

All right!

This has been a long, but productive weekend.

Saturday was spent editing down the three raw voiceovers; today I turned those into produced episodes, then I went over to California Center to record the announcer bits for the latest SLounge TV episode. I was run off by security ("9/11 phobia." America has truly calcified into a scared police state), but not before I got my footage. Anyway, I put up the completed music video show a few hours ago, then turned back to the podcast novel.

I considered spacing the episodes over a few days, but there's a certain symmetry in bringing the book to conclusion today - the first two episodes went up on Jan. 11th, so the final three went up on April 11th:

I still have the manuscript to go over and tighten up into a version suitable for ebook, but in the meantime I'll keep tabs on how long it takes the original story to reach 50,000 hits. I can't wait.
